Patients who would benefit from orthodontic treatment may be put off by the idea of hiding their teeth behind metal brackets, bands and wires for upwards of two years and adjusting their habits to accommodate the appliances. Fortunately, Invisalign offers a more attractive and convenient alternative.

This innovative system is able to straighten your smile using clear plastic trays that can be removed at mealtime and for oral hygiene. It’s barely noticeable, and it often achieves the desired results in a much shorter timeframe than conventional orthodontic treatment. If you’re interested in getting a straighter smile without traditional braces, schedule a consultation at our office to learn more about Invisalign.

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign is based on the same principles that are the foundation of traditional orthodontic treatment. Forces are applied to the teeth in order to get them to move into the correct positions, and those forces are applied in a deliberate and sequential manner. However, with Invisalign, clear plastic trays are used to move the teeth rather than brackets and wires. The dentist will give the patient a series of Invisalign trays, and the patient must switch trays according to the provided schedule in order to achieve the desired results. Additionally, the trays must be worn at least 22 hours each day in order to produce the desired movement of the teeth.

Invisalign Overcomes Barriers Associated With Standard Orthodontic Treatment

Patients may have reservations about many aspects of traditional orthodontic treatment, and Invisalign resolves most of these concerns. First of all, conventional braces are unattractive and conceal your smile, often for nearly two years. Invisalign, on the other hand, doesn’t obscure the teeth, and the trays are barely even noticeable. You can see your treatment results in real time!

Conventional braces also tend to be inconvenient. They require dietary limitations and adjustments to your oral hygiene routine so that you can clean your teeth around the appliances. Invisalign trays can be removed for both eating and brushing and flossing your teeth, so there’s no need to make any major changes to your lifestyle.

Patient And Dentist Teamwork Needed To Achieve Invisalign Treatment Results

In addition to the benefits described above, Invisalign may be able to straighten your teeth in a fraction of the time involved with conventional treatment. It also requires fewer visits to the dentist’s office. However, in order to benefit from all of these aspects of Invisalign, patients do take on greater responsibility for adhering to their treatment plan. They must be diligent about switching trays as directed by the dentist and wearing the trays for the recommended period of time each day. Failing to use Invisalign as directed can result in an extended treatment timeline.

Common Invisalign Questions
What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an innovative orthodontic treatment system that allows patients to avoid unattractive traditional braces and straighten their teeth using a series of clear plastic trays instead. Many patients choose Invisalign because of the numerous advantages this treatment system has in comparison to standard orthodontic treatment. Invisalign is more attractive, convenient and comfortable than standard braces.

Is Invisalign right for me?

Invisalign can be an effective treatment option for many patients. While the earliest versions of Invisalign were only suitable for fairly straightforward cases, the technology has advanced and Invisalign can now be effective in a range of scenarios, including malocclusions and severe crowding. The first step in this treatment process is to complete an evaluation at our office, in which the dentist will take x-rays, impressions and photos of your teeth in order to create a three-dimensional model. That model will then indicate the likely results in your case, giving you an opportunity to decide whether Invisalign can give you the smile that you want.

How long do I wear Invisalign?

After completing the assessment, your dentist will develop your treatment plan, which will determine the length of your treatment, among other factors. Each case is unique, but many patients are able to achieve their smile goals in about 6-12 months when they comply with the treatment plan. If you do not follow the treatment plan, the timeline may be longer than expected. Keep in mind that you will probably start to see your results fairly early in the process, typically within the first few months of treatment. This can be a significant motivating factor to follow your dentist’s directions.

Is Invisalign covered by insurance?

Orthodontic treatment is sometimes covered under dental insurance, but the benefit may be restricted to patients under 18 years of age or patients who have not previously completed a round of orthodontic treatment. Our team will work to help you take advantage of any dental benefits that you may have. We will also collaborate to identify the best payment options to help you fit the costs associated with Invisalign treatment into your budget. We accept a variety of payment options, including cash, checks, major credit cards and Care Credit, a resource for zero-percent financing. We also offer discounts for patients who pre-pay under certain circumstances. Talk to our office staff to learn about your options.
